Quality Engineer

Location: Detroit, MI
  • A private tooling and stamping company in Michigan
  • 3 plants in Michigan and Ohio

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for APQP documentation/tasks as part of the APQP process.
  • Responsible for planning and coordination of quality programs and activities to ensure the quality and reliability.
  • Root cause analysis and implementation of corrective action for process related concerns.
  • Assist Quality Manager in establishing, implementing and maintaining the quality management system.
  • Assists in the resolution of manufacturing quality issues and implement the Quality System to achieve TS 16949 and other required certifications.
  • Develop, execute and/or monitor quality plans and quality engineering tasks, as well as, manufacturing process validations and controls to ensure compliance with established requirements and regulatory expectations.
  • Develop training and coaching of manufacturing associates to build quality awareness.
  • Interface with Engineering and Operations to ensure transfer to Production of new products are in accordance with approved data.
  • Support the Quality Auditors to ensure that products and processes comply with the relevant requirements of the quality management system and part specific customer requirements.
  • Create and maintain company quality documentation, such as quality manuals, quality procedures, etc.
  • Responsible for planning, organizing and managing the overall activities of receiving / outgoing quality functions.
  • Continuously improving QA receiving inspection process and procedures.
  • Ensure timely resolution of supplier failure, corrective actions, and preventive actions.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Analyze customer complaints.
  • Customer proactive/reactive visits (includes some travel within US mostly)

Education & Skills Required:
  • Bachelor's degree required, (Engineering or other technical field desired) -- Required
  • 4+ years of Quality Engineer experience (Required)
  • 2+ years of DOE, PPAP and TS 16949 experience (Required)
  • Stamping experience (Required)
  • ASQ certification (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate Control Plans, FMEAs, Process Flow diagrams, and conduct PPAPs.
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Word).
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Hands-on experience establishing, audited, leading and maintaining a robust quality system.
  • Ability to read and interpret GD&T and engineering drawings.
  • Experience in PFMEA, process control plans and technical process documentation (Gage R&R's, Capability Studies, MSA, PPAP, Standardized Work Instructions).
  • Trained in and have knowledge of root cause analysis and CI and CA processes.
  • Experience working directly with customers
