Lead, Data Programmer - Pricing Actuarial Services

Collaborating closely with senior leaders, the Lead Data Programmer will plan, consult, direct, architect and implement very complex financial analytics, ad hoc data sets, and recurring/new analytical projects to support Actuarial Services, Finance, MSBD, Strategy and Medical Group functions. The incumbent will be responsible for migrating our team from Cognos to Tableau for ad hoc analysis and visualization capabilities and will be accountable for requirements gathering, data sourcing, programming and testing in partnership with stakeholders. This role requires a high degree of both technical and analytical skill. Additionally, the incumbent will prioritize and manage multiple analytical/data projects simultaneously.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Program, extract, configure, balance and merge large datasets from various sources to be used by requesting departments.
  • Extract, manipulate and merge data from various sources to create analytic datasets for specific projects. This includes data management, documentation, quality control and reporting of data in summary form.
  • Owns the creation of a suite of reports that are included in packages that are delivered to Senior Management. Will also lead a project to create a capability to compare expenses to benchmarks around medical service category and administrative expenses.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis (advanced level SAS and/or SQL programming skill and other computer languages e.g. MS Excel, Access, macros, Proc SQL).
  • Lead the cross functional project design, analysis planning meetings and others as may be assigned.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience working with large, complex data sets.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience working in a health care environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in public health, epidemiology, computer science, biostatistics, mathematics OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
  • N/A.

Additional Requirements:
  • Strong analytic and critical thinking skills, writing skills, oral communication skills, consulting skills and ability to work within a team.
  • Strong user knowledge of computer applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, SAS etc.).
  • Must be able to pull clinical and/or financial data from different sources and construct analytic datasets.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct quantitative and qualitative data analyses (advanced level SAS and/or SQL programming).
  • Advanced experience with SAS /or SQL or Relational Databases.
  • Advanced development experience and experience creating dashboards and reports within Tableau Desktop and/or Tableau Server.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience with medical or financial data.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience working with large, complex data sets in health care, public health. 
  • Master's degree in public health, epidemiology, computer science, biostatistics, mathematics OR six (6) years of experience in a directly related field.
