Qualified Mental Health Professional

Location: Spring Grove, PA
General Summary:
The Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) is responsible for fostering independent living skills in individuals who have a mental illness diagnosis. The QMHP works with staff in implementing individual and group programming. In addition the QMHP provides responsible care to individuals in the program and is responsible for the routine operation of the location while on duty. The QMHP will serve a role in the clinical aspects of the individual’s recovery process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
  • Ensures the individual’s health, safety, and welfare by, monitoring of their physical health and psychiatric health needs.
  • Enhances the quality of the individuals’ lives and their integration into the community by supporting established goals, and community integration.
  • Develops and implements program plans designed to enhance the individual’s social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and independent living skills.
  • Develops and facilitates individual and group sessions.
  • Completes all daily, weekly, and monthly records i.e., treatment plans, reports, logs, and other documentations.
  • Communicates and collaborates with team members, individual’s families, involved agencies, and the community in providing required relevant information.
  • The QMHP serves as a member of the treatment/service team.
  • Performs and assists in tasks to ensure the effective daily operation of the Individuals and program i.e. program scheduling, providing technical assistance to direct care advisors
  • Provides crisis management, intervention, and is on-call as assigned.
  • Develop and implement treatment/supportive interventions.
  • Provides coverage in emergency situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of mental illness and/or mental retardation/intellectual developmental disability diagnoses and symptomoloy.
  • Knowledge of group dynamics.
  • Knowledge of mental illness approaches and interventions.
  • Knowledge of computers and Microsoft software products.
  • Knowledge and the ability to utilize good listening skills and comprehend verbal instructions given in English.
  • Ability to learn and apply residential and family living state regulations.
  • Ability to problem solve and use good judgment.
  • Ability to manage crisis situations and resolve conflict.
  • Ability to organize, prioritized, and multi-task.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions written in English.
  • Ability to write legibly in English in a clear, concise, and logical manner.
  • Ability to speak clearly and express self effectively in English.

Minimum Education, Credentials, and Experience:
Master’s degree in a generally recognized clinical discipline from an accredited college or university and 1+ year of mental health clinical experience (if the profession is governed by a licensing board in Pennsylvania then the employee shall be registered, licensed or certified to practice in that profession).

Special Requirements
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to meet individual’s and program’s needs.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle to attend trainings, meetings, and/or transport individual to appointments.
  • Must have the ability to obtain clearances as defined by regulations.
  • Must be able to be on-call for program as scheduled.
