Pipeline Integrity Engineer

Location: Houston, TX
Job Role Summary:  As a member of the Global Pipeline Integrity organization, the Pipeline Integrity Engineer will provide technical support to ensure effective integrity management for pipeline assets.  Pipeline Integrity Engineers are initially assigned to support pipeline assets based in the United States and are responsible for pipeline integrity management as part of a cross functional team.  Pipeline Integrity Engineers will also have opportunities to serve on global teams supporting ExxonMobil assets worldwide.  This position will be based initially in Houston, TX.

Job Role Responsibilities:  
  • Identify relevant integrity threats for pipelines that transport crude oil, refined products, and chemicals 
  • Select appropriate integrity assessment methods such as In-Line-Inspection, hydrotesting, and External Corrosion Direct Assessment 
  • Lead teams comprised of experienced operations personnel to compile pipeline integrity data and comprehensively overlay operational knowledge 
  • Analyze in-line inspection data, determine immediate repairs, issue repair plans, and organize/facilitate business team meetings to align on operational changes as needed 
  • Establish testable segment fitness for service and assign integrity reassessment intervals 
  • Conduct Threat Identification & Risk Assessment and recommend Preventive & Mitigative measures

Job Requirements:
  • Excellent analytical, verbal, and communication skills 
  • BS or MS in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Nuclear, Industrial, Materials Science or Petroleum Engineering 
  • At least 5 years of experience in pipeline integrity engineering 
  • Thorough knowledge of pipeline regulations (49 CFR Part 195), codes/standards (ASTM, API, NACE, ASME, etc), and familiarity with historical pipeline industry failures (Bellingham, San Bruno, etc) 
  • Experience with providing integrity management support for existing pipeline assets 
  • Experience with evaluating asset susceptibility to the recognized pipeline industry threats 
  • Experience with evaluating in-line inspection results, performing engineering analysis of anomalies, and developing repair plans 
  • Experience with the integration of multiple data sets in a GIS environment 
  • Demonstrated ability to obtain results by working across functional boundaries (i.e. operations, maintenance, and technical) 
  • Willing and able to travel domestically (frequent)

Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
  • Experience with pipeline design and operations 
  • Experience with industry initiatives to improve pipeline integrity management through trade associations such as API, PRCI, etc. 
  • Experience in presenting integrity management program deliverables to state and federal pipeline safety regulators 
  • Experience with facilitating or participating in Scenario Based Risk Assessments (SBRAs)
