Sr. Data Warehouse ETL Developer

Location: El Segundo, CA, United States
The individual will be responsible for the Data Warehouse and Informatics functions for HealthCare Partners (HCP). The key purpose of this role is to provide dedicated SQL Server (SSIS) ETL development skills to assist with the development of an in-house designed Data Warehouse and further to assist with technical design and the implementation of related project activities and tasks. The role will be primarily focused on the design and development of the Data Warehouse; designing and writing the ETL code as well as the batch management and error handling processes.  The individual will work with business users to define and develop solutions for the company through the use of our data assets and ensure improved data-based decision-making capability across HCP. Additional responsibilities include the documentation of technical specifications and related project artefacts and within the wider project team contributing to solution design across the data warehouse landscape, for example - business process redesign, user interface design and the implementation of automated control processes. The final purpose of the role is to provide support to critical Production jobs and mentor the other ETL developers on the project.
  • Designing and developing ETL processes for the data warehouse; from the acquisition and staging of data, storing records within the warehouses historical archive and transforming records, cleaning, and standardizing data and metadata for loading into the data warehouse or data marts.
  • Prepare key documentation to support the technical design in technical specifications.
  • Lead ETL development and design whilst mentoring the projects other ETL developer in best practice and design.
  • Contribute in solution design workshops, championing and promoting the application of ETL best practice.
  • Design and development of the Data Warehouses batch management control processes and error handling procedures.
  • Provide afterhours support to make sure SLAs for Data Warehouse jobs are attained on a 24/7 basis with the assistance of Tier 1,  2 and 3 support.
  • Designs and writes SQL scripts, stored procedures, and user defined functions.

  • Builds data warehouse infrastructure including complex data models and strategic data sets and databases.
  • Specifies the creation of content in support of internal and external customers for data and information.

  • Ensures the reliability and timeliness of the data warehouse systems and underlying technologies.
  • Develops solutions to streamline business processes to achieve departmental and company-wide goals more effectively and efficiently.
  • Communicates status, problems, resolutions, etc. on projects and assignments.
  • Contributes skills and knowledge to other database and reporting projects as determined by management.
  • Directs the work of other staff and serves as a mentor to junior staff.
  • Uses, protects, and discloses HCP patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college and/or a professional certification requiring formal education beyond a two-year college.

  • A minimum of five years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server including database design and writing SQL scripts.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the Healthcare sector.
  • Hands on experience with integration tools such as SSIS, SSRS and SSAS.
  • Strong background in Business Analysis including supporting the design of new Production systems or system enhancements to existing systems.
  • 5 years of analytical/planning experience in healthcare.
  • Hands on experience with other ETL tools such as Informatica in addition to SSIS as primary skillset.

  • Specialization with related databases, architecture and implementation of data models and database designs, data access and table maintenance codes.
  • Understanding of data warehouse methodology.
  • Ability to mentor team members and promote and champion best practice ETL development techniques.
  • Be able to translate functional specifications into elegant ETL design supported by detailed technical specifications for the support of the Data Warehouse’s development on an ongoing basis
