Staff Accountant II - Statutory Reporting

Job Description
Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington has created a new Staff Accountant II role on the Statutory and Tax Reporting team.  In this role, you will perform accounting, reporting and financial analysis related mainly to statutory and tax filings made with various regulatory agencies, working closely with people throughout the organization.  The ideal candidate for this role will be able to account for difficult transactions that require judgment gained through previous accounting experience. 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Prepare schedules included in the statutory financial statements reported to the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner.
  • Manage efforts to ensure that financial accounting and reporting activities are being performed accurately and efficiently in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), tax and other regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare city and state B&O tax computations and prepare returns.
  • Support accounting-based research and analytical projects.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with operational departments.
Minimum Education Requirements
Bachelors Degree Accounting or related field or equivalent experience

Minimum Knowledge/Skills Requirements
  • Intermediate demonstrated working knowledge of GAAP.
  • Working knowledge of accounting cycle and demonstrated ability to compile a full set of financial statements.
  • Demonstrated application of accounting standards to business transactions.
  • Knowledgeable of financial transaction flow within operational and financial systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Thinks independently, acts decisively and self directed.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Proven analytical ability, excellent customer service and organizational skills.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems.

    Preferred Knowledge/Skills
    Intermediate All minimum requirements plus:
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the following: accounting, financial reporting and  SAP
  • Proficient in Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) systems.
  • Proven ability to identify and solve difficult problems
Minimum Experience Requirements
2 years Accounting and financial reporting experience

Preferred Experience
4 years Accounting and financial reporting experience in a large healthcare or insurance industry setting
Minimum License/Certifications Requirements
None Required 

Preferred License/Certifications
At time of hire CPA license
