Senior Litigation Paralegal

Position Overview:
Under general supervision responsible for performing a variety of relatively complex legal-related tasks under the direction of, and with a minimum of supervision by the Assistant General Counsel and the Senior Paralegal, Team Lead. Conduct legal research, draft legal documents, collect and produce documentation and other related duties.

  • Responsible for all aspects of litigation support, including collecting, organizing, and producing documents in response to all types of discovery requests including third-party subpoenas and drafting written responses to discovery requests. 
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable litigation principles. 
  • Perform independently a variety of relatively complex legal tasks related to miscellaneous litigation matters, including independently negotiating and responding to subpoenas, levies, garnishments, court orders and wage deduction orders in multiple jurisdictions
  • Understands field organizational structure and identifies key stakeholders in order to efficiently respond to discovery requests and third-party subpoenas. 
  • Escalate matters and consult with Litigation Department attorneys on special projects and assignments, as needed, and using analytical skills to identify all relevant issues; identity all applicable laws and understand all relevant aspects of the related client relationship.
  • Complies and performs critical data analysis as requested by Litigation Department attorneys. 
  • Review of documentation to determine deadlines and ensure conformity with legal requirements. 
  • Conduct independent complex legal research on specific issues.
  • Communicates with clients, government agencies or officials on a regular basis to answer questions related to service of process and to collect and assemble information.
  • Provides case management support, including monitoring and following up on case calendars, filing deadlines, and paper and electronic docket search. 
  • Knowledge of state and federal court process and e-filing.  
  • Timely document and maintain case files and updates in litigation database. 
  • Assist in training and mentoring new paralegals/interns.
  • Assist with projects and tasks as assigned.
  • Eight+ years of experience is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies, paralegal certificate OR the equivalent combination of formal education, training and or experience. 
  • Previous corporate law department experience and/or large law firm litigation experience is required.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and skill working in a team environment and coordinating workloads. 
  • Ability to work in a professional office, communicate clearly and effectively in meetings, work and interact professionally and courteously with all levels of the organization and maintain all information in the strictest of confidence.
  • Ability to multi-task and consistently meet aggressive and time-sensitive deadlines. 
  • Must possess attention to detail. 
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, as well as strong organizational skills, are required to prepare and process legal documents.
  • Must be proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Adobe Acrobat Professional. Ability to efficiently learn other software platforms and databases a plus. 
  • Time management skills to process a large caseload with competing deadlines.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and strong analytical skills are required to conduct legal research. 
  • Excellent customer service skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively with internal and external clients, team members, management and staff. 
  • Knowledge of financial services industry a plus. 
  • Self-motivated, confident problem solver for a fast-paced environment.
